The annual reed dance shows off the Swazi culture as thousands of Swazi maidens show up in their traditional attire. The maidens who show up have to be childless and unmarried before they have the opportunity to honour the Queen mother. The Reed dance will last up to eight days, where the aim is to preserve the maiden's chastity,
provide tribute labour to the Queen mother and produce solidarity by working together.

The rainy season usually occurs between December and April, while winter is from May to August, and one can experience cooler drier weather from September to November.
